In 1996, Christmas day happened to fall on Wedenesday, which is the day Humor Heals visits hospitals. At Rush Presbystrian, a patient named Thea was visited by Peggi Terzakis. These unexpected holiday visits are tremendously appreciated by the patients.
Humor Heals volunteer comic, Rich Casper, exhibited his generosity by being one of the first volunteers to entertain on a holiday, by performing at Northwestern Hospital on Thanksgiving day along with Peggi in 1996. After the performance, Rich mentioned to Peggi that the experience of making people laugh on the Oncology floor had added a new and much welcomed perspective to his life. Rich now lives in California and has expressed interest in starting a Humor Heals program in his area.
Humor Heals is developing a program tailored to children undergoing chemotherapy in hospitals. Kids need to laugh to lighten their spirits and provide hope for their future. Humor Heals is designing a variety show style performance to bring this kind of comedic relief to the families who need it most.
